Very Poor Design of filter basket
I purchased this coffee maker because I like the swing away filter basket. However, I found it very difficult to remove the filter basket from the hinges for cleaning, and just about impossible to replace it. I had to tilt the maker to see the tiny holes where the notches of the basket goes. I tried several times, but it seemed to get more difficult. I realized that tipping the unit could prove to be dangerous and damage the unit. For these reasons, I returned it, which was quick and relatively easy with Amazon.

This is a fine little coffee maker
I've been putting off writing reviews on items I've bought through wonderful Amazon, but have decided I'll do a few to have some fun and maybe help people in deciding what's good and what maybe isn't so terrific. Doing this review was the one I wanted to do first because a couple of weeks ago I read some comments (about it) that just didn't seem fair.

This little coffee maker does a fine job! At first I was a bit careless and lazy and ended up missing my targets when pouring from the little glass pot, as others have complained about. But what I found was that all one has to do is simply line the spout up square with your mug (or the built in water reservoir) and carefully pour. Since I began doing it that way I haven't spilt so much as a drop!

The unit makes the coffee in around 5 to 7 minutes depending on how full it is. This is a VERY nice little coffee maker and that's all there is to say about it. Buy it and enjoy it!:-)

Carafe is not great, but the coffee is fantastic
I love this coffeemaker. The carafe does not have the little plastic lib that you put your thumb on to pop the top up which is the only major drawback. The coffee is wonderful though. I think it is brewed at a hotter temp than the other coffee makers I've had. Before this, I had the 5 cup Black and Decker where the carafe just fell apart after about 4 months. The bottom dropped off the handle. This is what set me looking for a new one. I never realized the inferiority of the coffee it produced until I tried the Hamilton Beach. I also had a 4 cup DeLonghi before the B&D which was okay, but not nearly as good as this one. I am very happy. As for the "mess" cited by others. Maybe they are complaining about the carafe not opening easily or something. I find this coffeemaker does not drip onto the plate when you take out the carafe unlike the B&D and DeLonghi.

Right Size, Right Quality
Over the years I've had several 4- or 5-cup coffee makers, including Mr. Coffee. Now when I need a replacement I always go back to a Hamilton Beach model. It's easy to set up, easy to use and easy to clean. They It brews fast, feels "right", and is durable. (I used my last one every day for six years until I dropped it and broke the base.)

Delivery of this product from the non-Amazon vendor took an unusually long time, but I was informed in advance that would be the case. In every other way I am entirely satisfied with this purchase.

Mess Express
As others have pointed out, the lid and spout are poorly executed. If you make a full pot, it is impossible to pour coffee without creating a mess, unless you pour very, very slowly. The coffee hits the lid and flows out at the sides of the spout, missing the target completely. I don't understand why they didn't go back to the drawing board after a prototype was made.
