Customer Response
Unsuitable at any price
Oh, where do I start? Well, lets start with the grinder. The grinding unit is plastic with a coarse finish, that the grinds cling to, causing probably 1/3 of them to remain in the grinder. This requires you to disassemble the grinder and clean it thoroughly for every pot. This issue also causes the coffee to be very weak. The grinder makes an ungodly amount of noise (it literally scares small children). Grinds will get caught in the latch for the basket causing it to spring open while brewing. This, in turn, causes the brew-pause valve to close, even though water continues to reach the basket, overflowing it all over the floor. Try grinding your own beans? Don't grind them too fine, and make sure you don't put in enough for a decent pot of coffee as it will overflow the basket.
On the plus side?
1. Digital clock keeps decent time
2. The Carafe is actually very nice
3. The cheap plastic makes a delicious crunch as you smash it to pieces.
Bought my second one!
I replaced an aging Cuisinart with the exact same model. It took me a while to find it at a decent price, but Amazon came through with a sale and a $30 rebate.
I read other peoples reviews and had to shake my head in disbelief. We used our first one for over 5 years, and loved every minute of it. The feature that we liked the most is the thermal coffee carafe. If you've ever had coffee that has sat on a heating element for a couple hours and tasted like burnt coffee, then you would appreciate this model.
People complained about the clean up of the parts after making coffee. So, you have to empty the strainer of old coffee, like always, clean out the carafe, like always, and the only added thing is if you grind the beans, you have to rinse out the grinder. I would think anyone who grinds their own coffee would appreciate the small step(s) it take to have great tasting coffee. Yes the grinder makes noise, but doesn't most grinders? We're Dunkin Donuts crazies, and buy the beans and the ground coffee from them for $20/4 bags, and love that we can awaken every morning with fresh hot Dunkin Donuts coffee. We also have staggered mornings with one person heading out @ 4:30 am and then 6:00 am and 7:00 am. The coffee is hot for everyone, and still tastes fresh. We prepare the coffee to go at dinner time so the few extra steps of cleaning it really adds nadda to the dinner dishes, no biggie. It just depends on how much you're willing to do for your coffee!!
Definitely design flaws
The unique thing about this coffee maker is the combination of grinder and brewer all in one. The steel carafe keeps the coffee hot for as long as I need it to (about 2 hours). This is actually the SECOND of these I have bought, because there aren't many comparable models. I threw the first one out because I assumed that it had worn out. Both machines had the same problem. After a few months of use, during the brewing process, the coffee spilled over the top of the carafe and flooded the counter. This coffee maker has one of those "interrupt" valves in the bottom of the filter basket that allows you to take the carafe out during the brewing process and pour yourself a cup. I tried removing the carafe and realigning it numerous times. Nothing seemed to work. Last week, I decided that the problem might have been that I was using the gold wire filter basket without a paper filter inside, resulting in fine coffee grounds clogging up the opening in the carafe that allowed the coffee to flow in. I washed all the parts very well and started using a paper filter. So far, the problem has not resurfaced.
replaced identical unit and am pleased with both
this unit replaces an identical unit we have had for several years. The coffee maker is excellent and we simply wore out the previous unit. I can recomment this unit with out reservation.
Cuisinart DGB 600BC
The product arrived quicky, easy to make great coffee, Lots of parts to clean after each pot. The grinder when initiated makes a lot of noise for a short periods of time. So far I love it
