Customer Response

excellent and practical grill and griddler
I bought the Cuisinart GR Griddler around a year ago... I use it everyday to grill extra firm tofu, fish ,etc. After all of this I noticed that some of the food would get stuck, meaning that the teflon non stick surface was wearing out. I called cuisinart and it was under warranty. They said that they will send me new plates. After the time they indicate I got the grids, but by mistake they sent the plates not the grids. Called back again and this time the sent me a new replacement model and picked up the old one. Their customer service is outstanding, no problems, no issues, just try to resolve the problem. I think the 5 is because of this and that the griddler is very practical, small footprint and very versatile.

You will end up using it more than you imagined
I have had this for a while now and I am using far more than I thought. I got onto a panini kick and decided I wanted something to get the done easily. Of course, the first thing I did once the thing was unpacked was start cranking out the paninis. My concern was in getting a nice even warming on both sides. This unit delivered.

After reading other reviews on Amazon, I questioned the kind of job it would do with hamburgers or steaks. I anticipated the grease trap feature to under perform. I have to say that in my case, I finally decided to give some hamburgers and steaks a go. I could not be more pleased with how the unit cooked the meat. The grease trap seemed to work find. I got absolutely no grease spatter around the unit. I suspect that this was because I was careful to make sure the meat I was using was placed as much in the direct center of the cooking surface as possible. But even when I loaded it down with 4 burgers at a time, there was no issue with splatter.

What many folks may not realize is that you can achieve more subtle cooking goals with this unit as well. In my case, I decided I want to warm up a sandwich to melt some cheese and just generally heat up the meal. I cranked down the heat a bit and was able to do that without putting grill marks on the bread or otherwise toasting the bread, which is what I was going for.

My only complaint would be the placement of the handle. It makes storage a bit annoying since the handle protrudes up much higher than the overall body of the unit. Of course, this is actually an intentional design since the unit can be opened and laid flat so that both surfaces can be used to cook on and the handle becomes the stand for the top portion. Being able to collapse or fold this handle in some way would have been a nice touch.

The controls do feel a bit cheap. I anticipate that if/when this device starts having trouble, it is going to be those dials that cause it. When that time comes, I will most likely make a DIY project out of it and just replace the dials with something more reliable, but I think the manufacturer should simply be putting more robust controls in there to start with.

Almost great but a few design flaws
I bought this at a retail store based on the recommendation of a store employee.
The unit is overall built well.
After the first use grilling burgers it was evident that there are a few design flaws.
First the ridges on the grill plates are not raised enough to keep grease from overflowing so we had the stuff dripping in the back and front of the unit.
Some of it went inside the unit where the bottom heating element is - it looked used and old after just one use !!
.
Second the bottom plate is not level and of course it's slanted away from the drainage opening so the grease cannot drain properly.
We saw a display unit at a wholesale club with the exact same problem so it seems a design issue.
.
I returned it. I think with a few simple changes to the plates and to the way the bottom one is locked it could be a great grill.
Since we use it mainly for burgers it won't work for us.
.
Giving three stars because it's an otherwise well built unit, it heats very well, it can be opened to have two surfaces, so for other purposes it might work for you.

GREAT GRILL!!!
GREAT GRILL!!! I USE IT ALLLL THE TIME!!
ONLY THING...MY "DISWASHER" TAKES SOME
OF THE NON-STICK FINISH OFF...SO NOW..BEFORE I USE IT,
I JUST USE A "SPRAY OF CANOLA OIL" ON THE GRILL
SURFACES AND THE FOOD COOKS GREAT!!

Cuisinart Griddler
This works ok for a Panini but when you try and do chicken breasts or a steak it doesn't stay hot. It takes forever to recover the heat on the grill. I wish I'd not have wasted my money on this.
