Perfect accessory for my DeLonghi espresso maker
Based upon the recommendations of others, I ordered Terry's Tamper along with a DeLonghi coffee maker. The tamper arrived very quickly and prior to the DeLonghi. Though the directions included with the DeLonghi did not stress tamping as an important step in the coffee-making process, I know from experience that it is quite important to achieve the coveted "crema" inherent to a perfect espresso. This tamper does that easily and effectively and far exceeds the utility of the built-in DeLonghi tamper (an awkward plastic disk attached to the machine). This accessory is an important to a good cup of coffee as a proper steaming pitcher is to good steamed milk.
Simple, well-designed. Enough said.
This item is a single piece of polished cast aluminum. For my machine (a DeLonghi EC155) I use the smaller end which fits well into the portafilter with only a few milimetres of gap. I can apply good downward pressure without discomfort. It does its job well.
One purpose done well and inexpensively
I needed something flat and cheap to tamp coffee. You don't do better than this for the price. I don't have an espresso machine but rather a Krups Moka Brew (highly recommend that as well) and it is suggested that you tamp the grinds for the style of coffee maker that it is. This works perfectly for the task at hand.
I'm a little perplexed at the high priced tampers for sale out there. I mean, really, it's a flat surface that you apply pressure to. Duh. Save money and buy this product.
The Cats meow
This tool make life so much easier so take the plung and save your self the aggrevation when it comes to compressing your expresso you won't regret it.
A bit too large for a Mr. Coffee Expresso Machine
This is a well made coffee tamper, but the smallest end of it is too wide in diameter to be used with my Mr. Coffee Expresso Machine. As a result, I had to return it. If you have a Mr. Coffee Expresso machine you should look to a different tamper.
