Customer Response
Very nice but unreliable coffeemaker
I purchased my third DCC-2000 in July 2009. It just quit working in February 2010. The previous two coffeemakers started leaking after about a year. They couldn't hold their water.
Pros:
Makes good coffee
Keeps coffee warm for 2 hours without burning it
Makes 12 cups (most CMs make 8 or 10)
Very easy to clean
No carafe to clean or break.
Hey, it's EASY to fill with a pitcher. If you can't afford a pitcher, use the holding container, it was designed to fill the reservoir.
Looks nice, not cheap.
Drip tray is removable to be washed.
Easy to read the water level.
Three year warranty (register your product, keep your receipt!)
Cons:
Apparently very prone to leaking, either from the reservoir or the dispenser. All three have Valdeezed at some point, making an overnight setup kind of risky.
This one just quit.
Use the extra large Bunn paper filters, if you use paper. Otherwise, you may get grounds in the coffee depending on how fine your grind is.
I'll buy it again....
The bottom line: I owned this coffee maker for probably 2-3 years and finally encountered the same problem as everyone else. The power switch failed. My coffee maker was the slightly older model (2007 or 2008) and perhaps Cuisinart has fixed this by now.
The longer review: Makes great coffee - tastes great, stays warm for 90 minutes plus, no burnt flavor when getting a 2 hour old cup, etc. The trick (like with other coffee makers) is not to grind the beans too fine & use good coffee/water. There are two pieces in the interior, a reservoir and a holder for the filter. They both can be removed and cleaned, making the unit VERY easy to clean. The unit will accept standard round filters, or a standard filter basket (which will save $ in the long run). The unit is filled with a pitcher of water (you need your own pitcher - buy one at the dollar store). One drawback is that larger cups (travel mugs, etc) don't fit under the dispenser. You have to fill a regular mug, then pour the coffee into the travel mug. One more drawback is that the unit is prone to the occasional "coffee disaster" where somehow the dispenser gets stuck in a slightly open position during brewing (and while nobody's watching the coffee maker) resulting in quite an impressive spill.
In the end, we looked at other makers and decided to get this one again. I suppose we're on the the every-other-year plan with Cuisinart, which makes this coffee maker a little expensive. I'm guessing if we had a glass pitcher we'd be replacing it at least that often :-).
Loved it for 11 months!
I loved this coffeemaker until yesterday morning when it brewed 12 cups and completely shut off, clock and everything. I cleaned it and let it dry out and it still didn't work. I started looking over these reviews while I was on hold with Cuisinart waiting for a customer service person. I read that other people have had this problem and need to replace the darn thing about once a year. The only good thing is that it does have a 3 yr warranty so you can get it replaced with no problem. She didn't even ask me to mail anything back to her. The downside was that the rep was rude and impatient and made me plug in the coffeemaker again because she didn't believe me that it didn't work, and to top it off they didn't have any in stock. So I'm supposed to go without coffee until they send me another one which could take a month????? I asked her if they had another model that could be sent instead because frankly, I don't have the time to replace this thing every year. She said yes, but it would have a carafe. So she's sending me the DCC-2600 instead and it was in stock. Hopefully I'll get it in the next week. Hhmmm, should I go by a cheap coffeemaker so that I can at least have coffee for the next week or so. What a pain the &*$^&*(@~~!!!!!! And no apologies from Cuisinart. :(
Good Coffee, Good Looking Machine, Much Irritation
This coffee maker was purchased for our small office, and it is a great improvement over the last coffee maker we had. I would swear that the coffee tastes better!
The coffee maker is sleek and stylish. It fits well into the small space that we have available. It meets our needs.
However, the design of the coffee reservoir drives me up the wall. There are multiple nooks and crannies, as well as a lip around the edge that makes it difficult to empty old coffee into the sink quickly without making a mess. There is a snazzy pour spout, but again it is agonizingly slow and potentially messy (if you're rushing things).
You are supposed to be able to fill the coffee reservoir with water to pour into a water reservoir. I have not yet been able to do so without spilling at least a little bit of water.
It makes me long for the old days and our crappy coffee maker - which had the same design concept - coffee without the carafe.
This is a good coffee maker and has made good coffee. It loses major points for the many design flaws of the coffee reservoir.
Cheap quality
Whatever you do, do not buy this.
All the poor reviews of this coffee maker are correct.
The main problem is that there is some sort of electrical problem with this unit and
usually within a year or less it will break and be totally non functional.
The problem has to do with water condensation and even after knowing this myself I tried
to be real careful and wipe it up every time so it didn't build up and spill,
I still could not prevent it from failing. The only good thing I can say is that Cuisinart
will send you a replacement unit over and over again with little questioning, but that's because they know this
is a huge problem with this specific coffee maker.
