no more Starbucks!
I was given this by a friend from Italy, and all I can say is wow! I have never liked homemade coffee as much as buying it at a cafe, but not any more. I make it morning and night. The other reviews are correct, if you put the correct amount of water and milk, and tighten it just right, it makes a perfect cup of coffee. For me, it's a single cup because I want an American sized coffee! It took a couple of times to figure out the trick of unscrewing the two parts...remove the frother to release the pressure and then it's easy to open and clean.
I AM IN LOVE WITH MY MUKKA
I simply followed the video that was included and I read the directions - and I have been truly delighted and in love with my mukka cappucino maker.
It makes wonderful creamy, yummy soy cappucinos and soy lattes. The only slight change I made concerning the instructions is I cook my cappucinos on medium low vs medium high heat which takes a bit longer but it seems it makes more microfoam at a lower temperature. Also, I leave the pot on the burner after the pressure button pops and until the frothing sizzles stop making noise.
For lattes, once again, see the video for "creamy coffee" but replace the milk with soy milk. Yummmmmmmmmm.
My mukka soy cappucinos, hot and iced soy lattes are truly as yummy and satisfying as Starbucks (and I adore Starbucks) but without the financial guilt!
Wishing you good luck and good lattes!
Good but not perfect
I like using this product. I think Bialetti have done a great engineering job and there is a place for it.
However, it's a good product but did not fully live up to my hopes. Perhaps I was unrealistic in my expectations, but I thought the process would deliver a coffee similar to one produced in a proper espresso machine.
The coffee certainly tastes a great deal better than one produced any other way, save the above mentioned cappuccino machine. However, I can detect a slight burned taste and I suspect this comes from the prolonged heating of the milk via the steam, which has to travel through the coffee basket. So, I set out to test this theory by preheating the milk for a minute and ten seconds in a microwave, hoping that there would now be less prolonged exposure of coffee-flavored steam for the milk. So far I have only done this once but it seems to improve the taste. I will test this some more.
So, all in all, you do get a good unit at a reasonable price (although if it wasn't for portability - I travel with it - I'd have chosen a pump-based machine). It is very portable but you do need a stove top, so not all hotel rooms provide that.
I'd probably buy it again, but I would have benefited from more realistic expectations. After all, if it was as good as a full-blown machine there would hardly be a market for it.
Understand before you buy
I bought this thinking its simple and straight-forward. Add water, coffee and milk and put it on the stove. End product is frothy coffee latte. Actually I got the expected result on the 1st day. That's it. Never again! Cleaned the maker yet never got the same result again. If I am doing something wrong then this maker is not straight-forward. Cleaning is not easy at all due to the shape of maker parts. And most important is the pressure value. Don't know how best to clean that. So its upto you now.
Cappuccino Maker
Since coming back from visiting Italy and having a Cappuccino every afternoon, I started looking for a way to make them at home. I did not want to invest in a huge cumbersome unit, but found this one on Amazon for a very reasonable price. Now my husband and I go for afternoon walks and come back and have our Cappuccino. At first it was a little difficult to judge when it was ready and hot enough
but after the 4th or 5th time we got it right. I recommend this for the convenience of storage space but not for capacity as it only makes 2 cups at a time.
