Customer Response

Can brew 2 different cups of coffee, but...
The greatest feature of this coffee maker is that it can brew two different cups of coffee at once! We love this feature! It has reusable filters which save the expense and waste of one-use filters.

Unfortunately, it has some "features" that I consider flaws.
- The reusable filters always seem to have waste coffee grounds to be washed out, we still have not gotten used to this addition to the morning routine.
- The filter baskets that hold the filters swing towards the back of the unit, making it necessary to reach around the unit or turn it in order to be able to access the filter baskets.
- The water level gauge on the front of the unit tends to lag behind the level of the water in the resevoir, as it is filled by a small hole at the bottom of the gauge.
- If you overfill the water tank, the extra water spills out of a hole in the back of the unit with little warning.
- The coffee maker does not appear to ever shut off on its own.
- If you forget to properly select, 1-cup or 2-cups, you will have liquid all over the counter.

The overall construction of the coffee maker is of modest but workable quality, but we are somewhat concerned about the quality of the travel mugs.

great 2 cup coffee-maker!
This coffee maker makes a great cup of coffee! And it's very fast, too. I've tried other 2 cup makers, but they didn't last. You can always rely on Black & Decker!

Tips and Tricks
After many years of owning this machine, I am getting rid of it. NOT because I don't like it because I do, it's THE MOST functional coffee machine you can buy... ESPECIALLY for the price. I'm getting rid of it because I am switching over to all-glass in my kitchen and getting rid of everything plastic, little by little.

Over the years, I've figured out how to fix some of the problems some other reviewers have complained about.

First, there is bad seal between the lid and the mug itself. If you look on the side of the lid you will see a very thin rubber 0-ring. Take one of the mugs (with the lid of course) to any hardware store and get 2 thicker ones ...one for each mug. You'll need to test out which one does the trick... you will know when the lid stops wiggling around (like is normally does).

Second, the brew baskets DO come out. It is hard as hell to get the suckers out, but if you swing one out all the way, lift up high and pull the bottom out from the hole it is set in both WILL come out.

Third, the mugs come apart so that you can throughly clean the water and residue that gets trapped in between the steel outside and plastic inset (and that causes water to get trapped inside if you immerse the mugs in a sink full of soapy water like I used to do!). Just unscrew the two screws at the bottom with a phillips headed screwdriver, pull apart, clean and reassemble. VOILA!

Fourth, the switch at the top of the machine (that lets you select if you want one or two mugs brewed at a time) needs to be moved back & forth slowly and gently .... not fast and with too much force. I can attest that it CAN (and in my case it did) break if you try to switch it back & forth like it's a dial on stove or something. It just isn't that sturdy. You see, this is exactly HOW I broke my first unit. I was careful on my second unit and it is still going strong for over 5 years now.

The only reason that I gave this coffee maker 4 stars and not 5 is because the coffee doesn't come out as hot as I like BUT I like REALLY hot coffee. My son on the other hand doesn't and likes that it doesn't come out like my coffee out of my stovetop percolator (which is boiling hot :-) So in a way, that can be a positive or a negative depending on personal preference! Also, it is plastic and I prefer glass.. again, personal preference.

Hope this helps :-)

Using for camping
We recently bought a camper and needed a dual coffeemaker, my husband drinks decaf and I drink regular. The dual thermal cups keep the coffee hot outdoors and the coffee tasted great!

Dual Personal Coffeemaker
Coffeemaker works great, although I believe that the cup lids are defective. When taking a sip of coffee and finding most of it running down your chin.
