RV'ers This is The Coffee Maker You Want
Great compact size and unbreakable crafe. Makes good tasting coffee and doesn't take up a lot of space. Big features in a compact coffee maker. The 5 cup (25oz) size makes about 3 mugs.

Coffee, coffee everywhere
It seems a lot of bad reviews are from people displeased with the poor readability of the water meter. I don't really get that; you can look right in the top and see about how much water you've put in there.

What I will complain about, however, is the design of the carafe. It spills, constantly. The spout is very shallow, and the way the lip turns up on either end means that if you try to pour too fast coffee will come streaming out around the edges and onto your counter, or table, or floor, or wherever. Of course you can try pouring very slowly - and sure enough it won't spill. But it's hard to gauge the correct rate of pour. You're holding the carafe, pouring your morning joe into your mug; making sure to do so at the slowest possible rate so as not to waste any more of your liquid pick-me-up. Then boom, your hand tilts over the limit and you end up with coffee everywhere. I've come to keeping a dishtowel handy until I get around to getting a less accident prone coffee maker.

Returned immediately
After buying this product, I performed the routine "water-only" brew on a new coffeemaker and noticed that the water-level indicator on the side does NOT work. When I put my finger flush against the window, I could barely tell where my finger was, let alone the water. The water window is a joke, and with no cup marks on the carafe, there was no way for me to control the amount of water going into the machine. This is a simple but serious problem. I returned this poorly-designed appliance without even brewing one pot of coffee.

Nice little no-frills coffee pot
This pot is exactly what I was looking for in my apartment with roommates. First, the carafe is stainless steel, so there's much less risk of clumsy breakage. Another nice thing about it, which was not the case with Black & Decker's larger insulated metal coffee maker we had previously, is that all the parts fit together well. In other words, you're not left trying to guess the right way to put the top on or if the lid of the whole thing is all the way down. You do have to make sure your paper filter is in all the way and pressed against the sides of the filter basket, because otherwise you risk the water spraying the filter in a certain way that it folds in on itself, and grounds end up in your coffee. This has only happened to me once. I haven't had any problems with pouring the coffee, while that was a problem with B&D's larger model.

One thing to note, which other reviewers have mentioned, is this pot is NOT insulated. The carafe is made of fairly thin steel. So while it's sturdy, don't expect it to keep your coffee warm if the pot is off. Coffee makers with the hot plate have a tendency to yield burnt tasting coffee if it sits on it too long, but I haven't noticed that with this pot. It keeps the coffee warm but not so hot that it burns.

Potential negatives that may or may not be important to you:

1) It takes a few minutes to make a full pot, and there's no auto shut-off if you try to pour before it's done brewing. You just have to wait until it's done. I don't think a full pot takes more than 10 minutes to brew.

2) The brewing basket has no stopper in it, just a hole (which explains the lack of auto shut-off). This means the coffee will be weaker than your average coffee maker may yield. It's not impossible to overcome that; I just add a little more coffee than I would normally, and it tastes great.

B&D 5 CUP COFFEE MAKER
Makes coffee wonderfully but I had assumed it would include a warming plate--instead the coffee is cold with-in an hour. Since I am a writer who savors his coffee in AM, ultimatey I will replace very shortly. I believe keeping the coffee hot is as important as brewing.
