Customer Response

a problem with the basket
I have had two Cuisinart grind/brew coffee machines before. Both of the others lasted about 3 years and then the grinder froze up on both of them. They did make great coffee which was the reason I bought them. So I thought maybe this new design would be better since the grinder was a little different. That is yet to be determined. The PROBLEM with this one is that to get to the brewing basket, you push a button on the side. The mechanism that holds the basket in place is very flimsy and it is difficult to make sure that the basket is not going to snap out of place while brewing (this has happened twice to me and what a mess!) I have only had the item for less than a month and do not see this mechanism lasting very long. I would not buy this one again knowing this potential problem. It is pretty, though.

brew cycle stops
On my second machine now, the first was replaced by warranty, and I am having the same problem I did with the first. The brew cycle stops with half the water remaining in the reservoir. I have to restart the brewing with the grinder off, it will then use up the remainder of the water. It took about two months for this to start happening. Its been cleaned, tried with and without the filter, it just stops brewing. This, coupled with the noise and messy clean up, warrants the one-star review.

coffee is not HOT
we have used an older version of this coffee maker for years, and after 10+ years decided to buy a new one. This new grind and brew is AWFUL! The grinder is sooo loud. Sounds like an airplane taking off! But most disappointing is that the coffee is not HOT. It's warm. I don't want warm coffee in the morning . I will bring it back to Sams' club, and hopefully get my money back. I think i'd be better off with a traditional electric percolator.

This is our 2nd one of these coffee makers
We had an older model of this coffee maker since it first came out several years ago. It finally quit working. We bought one of the newer Cuisinart models with a burr grinder, where you can keep a 1/2 lb of coffee in the hopper. You're supposed to have to clean it only every few days. It kept plugging up, so we returned it and bought a second one of this model. Excellent! Works perfectly. Yes, it does have to be cleaned each use and dried thoroughly, but it makes great coffee and is way better than the other style. Don't waste your money on that one, buy this one!

Grinder leaves a lot to be desired
This unit is very well constructed for the price, and works quite well as a drip coffee maker. However, the idea of fresh-ground coffee in the morning just isn't going to work out for us. It uses the cheaper "whirling blade" method of grinding (to be expected at this price point) and shoots it onto the filter in an uneven layer. So between the usual poorly-ground bean shards which this type of grinder always delivers, you'll get a surprisingly weak cup of mildly bitter coffee as the water mostly filters through the thin spots of grounds in the filter.

If you grind your beans in a decent grinder and have a uniform layer in the filter, this unit will brew a very good cup of coffee. But for our two coffee cups full, the grinder design of this unit just doesn't do a good enough job. I'll update this post if we can test it at its full 12-cup capacity.
