From the Editors
Revolutionizing a classic favorite. The new spacemaker coffee maker was designed to please the traditional spacemaker user: sturdiness, performance but most of all, 63-percent more usable counter space. Intuitive, easy to use features and classic design, perfect for the spacemaker traditional consumer. At least 2 of the mounting holes are kept the same as the original (odd) to facilitate upgrades.

Customer Response
I do read reviews...
My very old under the counter maker, (a Hamilton Beach), is seriously failing on me. Leaking water from the reservoir, sometimes spitting coffee grounds from the filter cup.
The leaking is the worse, having to keep a towel under it when making a pot of coffee. I find that I'm loosing 1/2 cup of water with each brew.
So time to retire it and get a new one? However, in doing an Internet search, the Black & Decker seems to be the 'only' 12 cup, under the counter coffee maker on the market.
Did find a reference to another made by Contoure, however it is only a 10 cup model, and not finding reviews on it, as I'm seeing here on the Black & Decker. It's a bit more expensive as well, but would be worth the extra cost if it didn't have the same issues as the Black & Decker, and if it was a 12 cup...
In attempts to find out why there are so many bad reviews on the Black & Decker, I did some research. It seems that Black & Decker doesn't actually manufacture this. With many of their products, they had contracted the manufacturing out to other companies.
In this case, these coffee makers are manufactured by Applica. I did find a telephone number for them, and after being on hold for 10 minutes, I finally got to talk to someone.
I asked them to address the issues that many people here commented on. The leaking, spitting of coffee grounds and was told that was happening with their older models, and that there was a recall on those. Also that those issues had all been addressed and fixed in their newer models.
But was told that the recall involved the ODC 400 series models, and the new 'fixed' models were the SDC 700 series models.
However all the bad reviews I'm seeing here, involve that newer SDC 700 series models. So it would appear that those issues had 'not' been addressed and fixed.
If I'm going to deal with a coffee maker that leaks, and spits coffee grounds, I might as well save $60.00 and keep what I've got.
One would think that Black & Decker would address this at their corporate level, since it's their name on the product, and their reputation being commented on here.
Given the reviews here, I will 'not' purchase this Black & Decker under the counter coffee maker.
Thanks to all those that had taken the time to write such reviews. Naturally regret that you had experienced such issues with a big name product, but you are really helping other consumers out there with those helpful comments and reviews.
Hopefully these will eventually get back to Black & Decker corporate, and something will be done about this. Or possibly another company will see that there is a huge market for such appliances, and come out with some competition to the Black & Decker.
Real shame when there is only 'one' product to choose from out there, and it's found to be far less than what people expect.
Okay but not great!
I unlike some I found it easy to install. It has been in use for less than a year, the clock stopped working within a month, and it does not brew the coffee hot enough for me nor does the warmer keep the coffee hot enough. I did fix the warmer problem by placing aluminum foil under it.
Coffee Lover with Limited Counter Space
This product lasted 18 mos. and quit. I loved it though the diagram for installation requires a contractor! I loved the space saving aspect and reordered it 30 days ago. Went to all the trouble to reinstall only to find the clock did not keep accurate time which causes a problem for programming. I sent it back and ordered a replacement, reinstalled it and the clock on this one doesn't work. I give up, I reset the clock each evening only because I love the additional counter space this product and its companion pieces give me. Won't reorder when it goes out again. Three is enough.

should i buy ??????????
after reading the reviews i have made the decision not to buy the many reviews stating the same negative aspects far out weigh the good thanks!!!!!!!!!!!
